FAQ
1. What is the difference between VCX and other camera scores / ratings?
- All assessments are transparent.
- The basis for all scores is impartial since there is no subjective evaluation. All images are evaluated by a computer that also generates the scores
- Because we do not aim for profit, so there are no biased investigations influenced by clients.
- Because all members carry out collaborative research, it is avoided that just a single company benefits from the test method in particular.
- Individual experts from many manufacturers and test institutions are involved.
2. How are the standard and the test method updated?
Based on statistical investigations and new developments of the cellphone manufacturers, the expert team of VCX discusses additions and changes to the standard. The aim is to update the standard on a regular basis.
3. For mobile phone testing, how does VCX define which KPI (such as distortion, resolution, color, etc.) is more important?
VCX-forum relays on several methods to arrive at the right parameter, formula, and weighting, these include psychoanalytical studies, market, and user surveys, blind tests, other standards like ISO. Based on this data, a conclusion is drawn by members and experts in the VCX Forum.
4. Is the objective standard sufficient for judging a mobile phone?
It is the nature of a test method to always be a step behind the technical evolution. VCX always uses an objective approach based on measurements only and tries to stay up to date with its test method. The actual method used will always provide a good overview of the performance and quality of the camera, but it may never cover every single feature in a specific device. The VCX-score should be treated more like guidance and not an absolute as humans tend to have unique preferences.
5. Will VCX introduce part of the subjective test in the future?
The simple answer is No. The not so simple answer would be that, subjectivity does play a part in the initial part of the research and analysis during blind and psychoanalytical tests. Our researchers strive to find what and why exactly users have a certain preference and what parameters influence the same. those parameters and preferences are codified in the formulae and weighting and applied uniformly across mobile phones.
6. Do all the test results on VCX’s website come from the products purchased directly from a shop in the same way as an ordinary user would?
The majority of tested devices are purchased from the open market. In some cases, the test is conducted on a final production sample, so data is available at launch. Test results explicitly state which situation applies.
7. Who, when decides which device is going to be tested?
The coordinator regularly researches the market and the board members decide according to the proposal of the coordinator. Proposals for devices from other members are also taken into consideration.
